Cover Crops for Soil Health

Oakbank is actively involved with this increasingly important market, including substantial trials with our colleagues at Velcourt. We offer a complete range of species for these uses including:

Black oats
Forage rye
Legumes – Berseem clover, vetches, crimson clover
SMART radish
Daikon and Oil radish
Buckwheat
Phacelia

We are able to offer these species in straight form or we can create mixtures for your particular purpose.

We have six standard mixes which all qualify as multi-species winter cover crops under Mid-Tier CS option SW6 and SFI option SAM2 (£129/ha).

Summer Fallow Mix

Contains buckwheat, crimson clover, linseed, phacelia, Smart radish, spring vetch, sunflowers

Soils & Stock Mix

Aimed squarely at the grazing cover crop grower, producing good forage with additional soil health benefits.

Contains Barkant stubble turnip, forage rye, crimson clover, Spitfire kale rape, spring vetch.

Smart Winter Cover

Fast growing and deep rooting, with good winter hardiness.

Contains buckwheat, crimson clover, hairy vetch, linseed, phacelia, Smart radish

On the Lighter Side

For lighter and drier soils, good drought resistance, sow early for best results.

Contains black oats, buckwheat, crimson clover, linseed, phacelia, spring vetch.

Catch Crop No Radish

Fast growing, rapid development but brassica free.

Contains buckwheat, linseed, phacelia, spring vetch.

Catch Crop With Radish

One of our most popular mixes for nutrient retention and rapid growth.
